As you may know, the new Emergency
Cardiovascular Care (ECC) 2000 Guidelines mandated key changes to life saving
first aid techniques. In response, the
American Red Cross has updated and improved our courses. Our new training programs now include the
latest scientific advancements in first aid and CPR. Each session combines video, demonstrations, hands-on practice
and discussion to involve more learning styles.
ADULT CPR: Learn to give rescue breathing, abdominal
thrust and CPR for the adult victim. Instruction is by instructor
demonstration, videotape and manikin practice.

CPR FOR
THE PROFESSIONAL RESCUER: This course teaches professional rescuers the skills
needed to respond appropriately to respiratory and cardiac emergencies. Students will also learn to use a pocket
mask and bag-valve resuscitator.

CPR AND FIRST AID
CHALLENGES: Come prepared to take
the written and practical skills test.
There is no teaching of skills during a challenge. You may only take a “Challenge” one
time. If unsuccessful in passing the
written or practical skills, you will be required to sign up for a full course.

AUTOMATED
EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATION ESSENTIALS: This course allows
participants to become familiar with the use of Automated External
Defibrillation (AED) for victims of cardiac arrest and how to safely operate
the device.
FEE: $30.00 (Prerequisite: A current Adult CPR certificate.)

LIFEGUARDING TODAY:
This core course will teach
you the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic
emergencies. The course includes
certification in First Aid, CPR for the
Professional Rescuer, Automated External Defibrillation, Oxygen Administration,
Preventing Disease Transmission, and Lifeguard Training.
FEE:

Prerequisites:
C
Minimum age 15.

Swim 500 yards
continuously, using these strokes in the following order:
C
200 yards front crawl
using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick;
C
100 yards breaststroke;
and
C
200 yards front crawl
using rhythmic breathing and/or breaststroke.
The last 200 yards may be a mixture of front crawl and breaststroke.
Swim 20 yards front crawl or breaststroke,
dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object and return it to
the surface and swim 20 yards back to the starting point.

BABYSITTER'S
COURSE: Youth learn the responsibilities of a babysitter, child
development stages, child care, activities for children, accident prevention and basic first aid.
Open to boys and girls ages 11 to 15.

FIRST
AID/CPR/AED INSTRUCTOR TRAINING: The purpose of this
course is to train instructor candidates to teach the American Red Cross First
Aid/CPR/AED Program courses and modules.

A current FIT
certification Community First Aid & Safety certificate

October, Mid-Fairfield County in November and/or Southeastern Fairfield County
