MIDDLETOWN—For a few years, the American Red Cross Middlesex Central
CT Chapter, Middlesex United Way, the Salvation Army of Middletown and
St. Vincent de Paul Place worked together to form one food bank for
Middletown. All the hard work came to fruition in March 2002 when we
opened Amazing Grace, a Food Distribution Initiative, then located at
926 Washington Street. The next challenge came this winter when our
lease was ending and we needed to find a new location. After a very
diligent search, we came to find the perfect location and moved the
last weekend in March.
Thanks to much hard work from dedicated volunteers and staff we
closed the old location on Friday and opened the new one on Monday. |

Our new location, at 139 Main Street Extension, is
more convenient for shoppers and donors alike. The set up is more user
friendly and appealing.
Since opening our doors we have expanded the number of
families and individuals that we serve. In 2002, we assisted 2110
people with 74,920 items. We have also gained many more wonderful
volunteers, without which we could not survive. –Luray Shepard |
