To Register: Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Pre-registration is required for all classes (cash or check payable to American Red Cross). The Chapter House (both in Middletown or New Britain) hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. It is recommended that the book be read prior to the start of class. No phone reservation will be accepted. All students MUST bring their receipt for entrance to each class. INSTRUCTOR TRAINING PROGRAM -First Aid/CPR/AED
Tuition: $150 including books

Train to become a certified Instructor for your American Red Cross Health & Safety services.  Includes FIT.  Please call Sue at 347-2577 to request an application or email [email protected]

Requirements: Students must attend all dates. Must be currently certified in: Adult CPR / AED Skills, First Aid, and Infant & Child CPR skills.  Successful completion of pre-course testing session. Successful completion of required practice teaching assignments. Demonstration of competency in required skills.

Learn how to recognize and handle an emergency; when to call and how to interact with emergency medical services (EMS) system; how to recognize the signals of a heart attack and how to give care; how to care for a victim who is having a breathing emergency; how to give CPR to an adult.

Learn how to recognize and care for a victim of sudden illness and care for different types of wounds, including burns and bleeding; how to recognize and care for muscle, bone, and joint injuries, including injuries to the head, neck, and back.

WSI 2004 Update
This group orientation is for currently authorized WSI's.  The new program is just released this spring.  This orientation includes: Updated new text books, power point presentation, and viewing of the new videos.  All current WSI's are required to update before their renewal date.  Cost: $65.00.

INFANT AND CHILD CPR         Tuition: $30       Book: $15
Learn how to recognize and handle an emergency; how to check the scene for safety and the infant/child consciousness; how to check an unconscious infant/child; how to clear the airway of a conscious choking infant/child; how to recognize the signals of a cardiac emergency; how to give CPR to an infant/child; how to prioritize care for life-threatening injuries or sudden illnesses; how to give care to an unconscious choking infant/child.

COMMUNITY CPR - Adults, Infants, & Children         Tuition: $45       Book: $15
Learn how to overcome any reluctance to act in emergency situations and to recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory or cardiac emergencies in infants, children and adults.  Learn to reduce the risk of heart attack: reduce the risk of injury to infants and children: how to care for an infant, child, or adult who stops breathing or is choking; how to give CPR to an infant, child or adult whose heart has stopped beating; and how to use your community's emergency medical service (EMS) system effectively.

CPR for the Professional Rescuer                       Tuition: $65 (includes book and pocket mask)
Learn the role of the professional rescuer in the EMS system; the role of the professional rescuer in providing emergency care; how to recognize and respond to respiratory and cardiac emergencies in infants, children and adults; recognize the risk factors that contribute to cardiovascular disease; and perform specialized skills and techniques used by professional rescuers.  Must attend all 3 classes!

CT CHILD CARE        Tuition: $55       Book: $21
Learn how to administer First Aid and Infant/Child CPR, prevent injuries, an recognize communicable diseases in children.  Meets state training requirements for family and center day care staff; also appropriate for parents, grandparents, and child care givers.  Upon successful completion, students will receive both Infant/Child and Connecticut Child Care certificates.

BABYSITTING         Tuition: $40           Book: $10
The American Red Cross Babysitter's Training Course gives individuals, ages 11 to 15, the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. This training helps participants develop skills in five critical areas: leadership, safety and safety play, basic care, first aid and professionalism.  Must attend all 3 classes!

WHEN I'M IN CHARGE - Teaching Kids Responsibilities at Home

Topics include gun safety, internet safety, family communications, sibling care; basic emergency care; and confidence building.  Ages 8-11.

Learn how to keep your cat or dog safe during an emergency until you can take your pet to a veterinarian.  This course reviews symptoms and care for common ailments and emergencies and explains how to maintain your pet's health and well-being.

This FREE presentation is a fun, interactive, non-certified course that provides children and/or families with valuable tips that can help prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies at school or at home.
