Family Lantern Tour

On Friday, October 24 the New Canaan Red Cross held its second annual Family Lantern Tour in Historic New Canaan. The entire tour took place within walking distance of The New Canaan Red Cross, approximately the stroll between God’s Acre, the Outback and Town Hall.  Much like the famous Ghost Tours of Williamsburg, Virginia, a lantern tour is led by a tour guide carrying a lantern!  Crossing guards kept our attendees safe. Each group was led around to 6 or 7 different locations where storytellers and reenactors awaited them. They were fascinated by the history, stories and legends of the town and its residents.

“Oh What a Night!”
The fifth annual gala of the New Canaan Red Cross was held on Saturday, May 31 at the Woodway Country Club in Darien.  As with most galas, the evening included live and silent auctions, dinner and dancing .  But it was a special live appearance by Broadway’s Jersey Boys original cast members Daniel Reichard and Michael Longoria that brought the house down! Daniel and Michael sang many favorites from the 60’s, pleasing all gala attendees.   Another treat was seeing master auctioneer C. Hugh Hildesley conduct the live auction and then raise donations through the Paint the Town Green segment of the auction.

The gala was a great success, raising over $120,000 for the American Red Cross so the chapter can fulfill its mission, while at the same time providing great entertainment and a wonderful event for Red Cross donors. This was the first year the New Canaan Red Cross held the gala as a single chapter event and New Canaan responded with enormous support from numerous businesses and shops.  Town businesses are approached countless times each year and they don’t get enough credit or recognition for the support they continuously lend to organizations in New Canaan.  The Red Cross touches the lives of many New Canaan residents and it was gratifying to see so many respond so generously.   

The New Canaan Chapter of the American Red Cross would like to extend special thanks to all the sponsors, underwriters, live and silent auction donors, committee members, gala attendees and Stephanie St. Louis and the staff at the Woodway County Club.
